Carl Edwards started from the rear but once he worked his way to the front he was the class of the field as he went on to win Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series NorthernTool.com 250 at The Milwaukee Mile for the second straight year.

The win was Edwwards’ first in either the Nationwide or Sprint Cup Series in 2009.

“I’m just glad I got to do it tonight,” Edwards said.

Series points leader Kyle Busch finished second and Brad Keselowski third. Pole winner Erik Darnell was fourth and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fifth.

Busch again led the most laps of the race as he’s done numerous times this year but could only come away with a runner-up finish.

“We just didn’t keep up with the track, I guess,” Busch said. “Carl beat us out there fair and square.”

Steven Wallace, Mike Bliss, Stephen Leicht, Ron Hornaday (who won the day’s earlier rain-delayed truck series race) and Jason Leffler completed the first ten finishers.

Edwards and Busch were forced to start at the rear of the field due to their late arrival at the track from Infineon Raceway, where they were practicing for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series event.

Although he slid back in the closing laps, Darnell again impressed in one of his limited starts for the Roush Fenway Racing team.

“I wish we could have stayed further up as the laps wound down,” said the polesitter, “but it was a solid night for us.”

The Nationwide Series now heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway next Saturday afternoon.
